zgen is an internationally acclaimed Turkish dancer, teacher, choreographer and director. Specialising in Turkish Oriental and Romany (Gypsy) dance, Ozgen is keen to promote the Turkish form of Belly dancing to global audiences. He is regularly invited to give workshops in Britain and abroad, and to perform at international dance events and Belly dance festivals across Europe, North and South America, and Asia. His latest show, Tales Of A Sleeping Man, follows the sleeping man’s dreams. If is an abstract journey through flashbacks of well known fairy tales, mythology and creative fantasy. Shefffield dance practitioner, Nisha Lall is projecting managing and says ‘After meeting Ozgen and seeing his unique vision with bring Middle Eastern Dance on to stage, I thought this would be a great project for the dance community in Sheffield. Ozgen approach of combining professional and community dancers together on stage really appealed to me.’ Ozgen is ‘so excited to be dancing in Sheffield for the first time. It is such a welcoming place that supports art and culture and has honoured Tales of A Sleeping Man in Sheffield. It premiered in london and the next stop is Japan.’
Esref Ulas, a salsa teacher in Sheffield has been helping secure funding for this project. Esref says: ‘I have been very impressed by local businesses that have shown support towards this project and how it is representing Turkish culture’.
